For Nuit Blanche and Alberta Culture Days, SNAP is taking art to the streets! BLOCKOUT: City Skies will feature exciting print-on-demand activities and a Night Market. For maximum spectacle, SNAP is steamroller printing massive woodblocks carved by specially commissioned artists, community groups, and visitors. BLOCKOUT artists are working with the theme “City Skies,” celebrating the urban environment as a space of community gathering and collective wonder. Purchase a big print or head inside to try letterpress printing from blocks carved by emerging artists. Go home with something special from SNAP’s Night Market or get a print hot off the press! Come see SNAP for yourself and meet the artists who make up one of Edmonton’s most exciting artist-run centres.
Visit SNAP Gallery for extended Nuit Blanche hours (until 3 am) to view the new exhibitions Aplacadaos – entre cascos percutidos y bardas by Miguel A. Aragón in SNAP’s Main Gallery and Selvage by Mitchell Chalifoux (2017 Emerging Artist in Residence) in SNAP’s Community Gallery. Mitchell Chalifoux will be giving a special performance, transforming from artist into glamorous homemaker, from 7 pm until midnight.
About SNAP
The Society of Northern Alberta Print-artists (SNAP) is a not-for-profit, artist-run centre, and a registered charity. SNAP started in 1982 when a handful of artists established the organization as an independent, cooperatively-run fine art printshop in the historic Great West Saddlery Building. SNAP is one of Edmonton’s most unique and exciting visual arts organizations with a robust programming schedule, dedicated membership, active printmaking studio, and the drive to be an important community resource.
